The Centre for the Ocean and the Arctic at UiT The Arctic University of Norway is now welcoming Evan Bloom to the team as a Senior Advisor.
He is the former Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and Fisheries and Director of the Office of Ocean and Polar Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, as well as a global fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington DC.
"He is internationally recognised for his expertise in analysing and understanding the developments in the Arctic and Antarctic regions and will bring valuable competence to the centre," says centre director Anne Husebekk.
Mr. Bloom is a trained lawyer and has, through a long career at the U.S. Department of State, where he, among other roles, led U.S. efforts related to the Arctic Council, gained unique experience, insight, and understanding of international Arctic policy. At the Centre for Ocean and the Arctic, Bloom will contribute policy briefs on specific issues in both the Arctic and Antarctic regions.
