We gather input for Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s international High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.
The Centre for the Ocean and the Arctic leads a group of representatives from the Norwegian higher education sector. We compile and pass along their professional input to the High Level Panel's expert group. The task of the expert group is to design a scientifically based report which focuses on developing a sustainable global blue economy.
The High Level Panel was established in 2018 at the initiative of Erna Solberg. Its objective is to create international insight into sustainable use of the sea, and help the global community achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals together. The panel consists of 14 heads of government, led by Solberg and Thomas Esang Remengesau Jr, president of Palau. Vidar Helgesen has been appointed Norwegian special envoy to the panel, and is in charge of following up on Norway’s efforts.
The High Level Panel concludes its work in 2020, and will publish its report and recommendations during the UN Ocean Conference in Portugal.
